MUSIC LEGEND DONOVAN SPECIAL GUEST PERFORMER AT “SGT. PEPPER’S… REVISITED” – RUTH ECKERD HALL, NOV. 21, 2008

It is a great honor to announce that very special guest Donovan will join the “Sgt. Pepper’s… Revisited” performance featuring Cheap Trick and the Florida Rock Symphony at Ruth Eckerd Hall on November 21, 2008.

Donovan (www.donovan.ie) is featured in the critically acclaimed, newly released documentary “Sunshine Superman – The Journey of Donovan“, and was one of the guests invited by The Beatles to join them at Abbey Road Studios for the final orchestral overdub session for the Lennon-McCartney collaboration “A Day in the Life, the grand finale to their opus Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

According to a 1968 Paul McCartney interview with Radio Luxembourg, Donovan taught John Lennon and Paul McCartney various guitar finger-picking styles. Lennon went on to use the technique to write songs including “Julia,” and “Dear Prudence” McCartney also picked up the technique with “Blackbird.”

Donovan’s thirteen British hit singles; his innovative, ingenious and meticulously textured blending of disparate genres such as jazz and folk and rock (not to mention medieval, Indian and Caribbean) music; and his songs which have been covered by heavy hitters such as Joan Baez, Kate Bush, Hole, the Allman Brothers Band, Nigel Kennedy, Eric Burdon, Jefferson Airplane, Al Kooper and Stephen Stills make Donovan one of the most intriguing figures in the history of music.
